HLF would like to congratulate our very own Heath Bell, the San Diego Padres closer for being selected as a NL pitcher for the 2011 All Star Team. Heath will be the lone representative for the Padres at the July 12th Baseball classic that is being played in Phoenix this year.

This is Bell’s 2nd consecutive nomination. Way to Go Heath! HLF & all the kids you have and are helping will be rooting for you next week.

We just wrapped up our inaugural Spring Baseball Clinic, and we were blessed by the fantastic turnout of kids & volunteers.  Heath Bell, the All Star pitcher of the San Diego Padres, stopped by & gave the kids over an hour of coaching on baseball fundamentals.  He also shared his story of going from being cut from his high school team, to not getting a scholarship to play college ball, to being an undrafted MLB player- to reaching the top of the game as MLB’s top closer.

It was a great story that taught the kids perseverance, to never give-up, and the power of having someone who believes in you.  In Bell’s case it was both his earthly Dad & heavenly Father.  In the case of the inner city kids at the camp, HLF’s goal is to stand in the gap for the fatherless, providing that positive role model & also to let them know that there is a Heavenly Father that will always be there for them.  Over 100 kids participated in the clinic.  All the kids left with a Bible, HLF t-shirt, Reebok hat & dri-fit shirt& 2 tickets to go see the SD Padres.   Click here to see Photos.

Special thanks goes out to all of our volunteers, Heath Bell, The San Diego Padres and Reebok.
